Exif Editor App Reviews

The Right Tool for the Job

I was faced with correcting the year on several hundred NEF files, and only had an editor that didnt work with NEFs. I needed a NEF editor, and it had to be one that would do batch processing so I wouldnt go crazy editing the three date entries on each file one at a time. Exif Editor is that tool! I needed a bit of explanation on the process, but the author responded promptly and succinctly to my questions and Im happily on my way through correcting my files. He also is working on making this app even better. In addition to NEF files, of course, it works on many others (see the product description above). I think its a great product!

Works great now...

I had some issues initially, probably from the install, but got it all working perfertly now thanks to Martin. The support was spot on, responded within 12 hour, great job! Thank you!!

Exif data is not readable by InDesign

We purchased this app so that we could add captions that could be flowed on to an InDesign layout when after the image has been placed. This app generates the Exif data in such a way that it is not readable by InDesign, so just a warning to anybody that might be trying to use it for that purpose.

Does not display all EXIF tags

Purchased this application looking for an easier way to read EXIF file data than the comprehensive exiftool by Phil Harvey. FWIW, where this data includes fields, its great. Problem is, it doesnt include all the EXIF data I need to see. For example, one common way to evaluate used cameras is to see how often theyve been fired by checking the shutter actuation number (ShutterCount on a Nikon) on a recent image. This tool doesnt offer that. Im not seeing other fields here, either. So…if all youre looking for is geotagging, artist name, that sort of thing, this is probably useful. If you really want to see whats in the entire EXIF file, look elsewhere.

Won

Odd. I got a message that an update was available, but downloading from the App Store keeps failing, and that I should try again using the Purchases window, which aslso fails to download version 1.1.0. Other Apps updated fine yesterday, but Exif Editor didnt download, and still does not today. Whats the deal?

Superb support

I see people complaining it is a basic program and allows access to limited fields. Maybe, but it works and Martin is fully dedicated to customer service. I had a problem with accessing proprietary lens descriptor fields for my camera, he went as far as to send me a test build that gave me access to what I was looking for with drop down field fillers and all! Thank you, Martin, you saved my day.

Exactly what I was looking for

This is a simple program, but is what you need if you have a bunch of old slides that have been scanned and have no EXIF data and a creation date of today. It has a feature that allows you to set presets, so I went in and set up one for all the photos that were taken by my father. Then I just applied that preset and batch edited the dates to put the pictures into the approximate time frame of when they were taken. Sometimes you know the exact date because the pictures are of Thanksgiving or Christmas, other times you just need to use the “processed date” indicated by the film lab on the slides. It’s not exact, but it is better than the pictures being sorted with pictures taken around the time the slides were scanned… which will put them about 30 years off the correct date :). Anyway, not having to do this one by one is worth the price of this app. Actually, I don’t think I will need to use this app ever again, but it was very worth the price.

Dont

Just purchased and downloaded, will not even open, have tried contacting support, Just Threw Away $9.99...

Almost excellent

This does a good job of enabling you to change the metadata on your photos, which is just what I need since my camera does not have GPS capabilities. I have only two problems, both more annoying than show stoppers, but the do rate losing a star. The first problem, and the most major issue, is that you can’t move from field to field by tabbing. You have to click into a field to move to it. This is very annoying when changing related fields, like the GPS data and the “General” data fields. The second problem is with the GPS data. There is a “Show on map” which is great for fine tuning locations, but presents two of its’ own problems: First, if you move the pin it only moves ONE of the selected photos, not all of them. If I select multiple photos then, obviously, I want to move all of them, not just one. The second problem I have with the GPS map is that after moving the pin the map zooms back out to its’ default. It should hold at the zoom level I have selected, not require me to zoom back in each time. If I’m working with several shots in a particular area, the zoom should remain as-is. Other that these problems, this is a great app that doesn’t require you to change the photo format. I shoot exclusively in raw (Canon CR2) format, and I don’t want to lose that just because I am changing the metadata. Other programs I have tried requring saving bad into jpg, png, or tiff format.

Works, mostly

It does what it says—let’s you edit tons of EXIF and XMP settings and what not. It’s just buggy as hell.

Worked perfectly

I had a bunch of scanned photos to put into an album. I wanted the creation date to be the date the picture was taken, not the day that I scanned the old picture. This tool worked perfectl the first time I tried it. Cheers!

don’t buy the worst app

this is the worst app that I have bought in app store. now it doesn’t work anymore. it can’t save what i have edited about any exif information of my film photos. it can’t edit the create and original date of my film photos. in short, it has only one function: it only can open the image and check its exif information. bad~~ bad~~bad~~ worst worst worst waste my money and my time.

Perfect for adding metadata to film scans

I use Exif Editor for adding camera & lens exif data to JPEGs and TIFF files of images I’ve shot on film. You can easily create presets for different camera/lens combinations as well as set ISO for the film used, and even set the machine the lab used to process the film. Batch processing hundreds of images runs quickly and smoothly - just do it as a first step in your workflow before importing your files to Lightroom/Aperture. I’ve tried a few other similar apps for the Mac and this one is by far the easiest to use. Support from the developer is top notch too - If you still shoot film, get this app!

Really useful application

Does exactly what it says it does. Do pay attention to the tutorial screenshots - online help is a bit spare. But once you get it, it’s extremely handy and can process multiple photos at once (e.g. remove geotags from photos before posting online. Martin is also very timely with tech support. Worth every penny.
